Playtest Campaign Wrap & Next Steps
Tonight I wrapped up the longest playtest to date, and there have been a lot of iterations and ideas tested over the last 5 months. Through it all, I am finding that VIGIL has a few areas that it wants to differentiate itself from the Blades SRD. I've also been reading through Girl by Midnight (among other games and design discussions) and taking bits of inspiration from there.
Here's a highlight of some of the major changes that are almost certain to make it into the next release:
- Harm changes
- Resistance changes
- Radiance level rebalancing
Venture Forth, now Journey, has a revised procedureGlare, now called Exposure, will have a fallout procedure after a vigil concludes- Entering into a fragment and engaging with the soul inside has expanded options
- Sanctuary building has major simplifications
- Domain defense improvements
- Keep Company/bond improvements and simplifications
- Downtime and Keep Watch changes
- Advancement streamlining for companies and keepers
- Others that may or may not make the cut
A lot of these changes impact existing special abilities, so I'll probably do a complete review of all SAs (including adding some new ones to better integrate with the rule adjustments) and make sure that everything is up to date before a new release. The previously released fragment supplements will also need updating to adjust to the new soulfall process.
All that said, I have a lot of work ahead of me! I've slowly been revising a lot of the basic game text as well; it looks pretty different than the Blades SRD at this point, and as I settle into the next version of the rule changes, most of the document will have new organization and presentation (even before layout).
