New Update - 0.2.1 adds Factions & Creatures


Autumn sails by and starts to feel more like winter (especially in the upper Midwest; we're bracing for snowfall tonight!). VIGIL crossed its third anniversary at the beginning of this month (still a few days left to jump on the celebratory discount sale), and I've put the last touches on the remaining content for the Setting chapter. 

Factions are now included in more expanded detail that they've been before — the original set of factions from 0.1.x gained full spread details and notable NPCs to choose from, and an additional list of 18 groups has been added with short descriptions. 


The Creatures section details the three type of beings that populate the Midnight Vale: Mortal Souls, Mindcast, and Gloombred. With various permutations and subtypes, this section provides lots of inspiration to pull from for the various challenges (or friends!) your keepers may encounter on their journeys. An indexed bestiary is still in the plans for the appendix, possibly arriving this winter.


The next target is the GM advice chapter, which is already well underway. Sections of calibrating your game, tuning the challenges, and general advice for using the procedures and tools in the ruleset will be coming your way in the first release of 2026.

    • Chapter VI has faction and creature information added to the setting information. These subsections add almost 30 pages of new content to flesh out the Midnight Vale.
